The backyard gathering
Someone is telling the story again. The lemonade is almost gone. Nobody is ready to take the plates inside.
Can enjoying an ordinary day be part of life with God?
Someone passes another plate. A child misses the ball, and everyone laughs. Nothing here looks especially religious, yet there is goodness worth receiving. James points us toward the Father as the giver of good gifts. You do not have to turn this evening into a lesson to be grateful for it. Enjoy the people in front of you. In Christ, life with God includes the ordinary table, the familiar story, and the gladness you did not have to earn.
